Scots Baroque is an innovative new early music ensemble based in Glasgow, Scotland. Taking music of baroque period as their starting point, they experiment with a fusion of techniques and genres, including improvisation, folk styles, and contemporary music written for old instruments. ‘The Scottish Baroque’ programme is a whirlwind tour of the wonderfully hybrid repertoire of eighteenth-century Scotland. Italian Scots music by Oswald, Barsanti, and Geminiani. Wild extemporisations on folk tunes and Corelli’s sonatas by McLean and McGibbon. Country dances, reels, and haunting slow airs by Niel Gow and his contemporaries.
