The Golden Age of Hollywood - Concert

“The Golden Age of Hollywood” is a recital for two violins and piano celebrating the music of classic Hollywood, featuring the music of Waxman, Korngold, Walton, Berlin, Steiner, Chaplin, Arlen and Porter amongst others.

The recital is accompanied by projected images and film excerpts (PAT tested equipment provided and operated by the musicians) alongside full colour printed A5 programmes.

Verbal introductions to the music will provide audience members with a glimpse “behind the camera” – exploring the composers, directors, film stars and stories associated with the music.

The recital has a running time of 90mins (incl. interval).

The Miller Violin Duo is made up of Scottish violinists Alison and Danny Miller.

Alison studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, graduating with a First Class Honours degree. Danny studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and then in Salzburg, Austria with Professor Igor Ozim of the Mozarteum Universitat.

They both enjoy freelance careers as orchestral and chamber musicians; performing across Scotland as well as abroad at venues in Belgium, Italy, Canada and the USA. At home they work regularly with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

The Miller Violin Duo has performed across Scotland at notable venues including Glamis Castle and St. Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh.

Upcoming engagements include a return to Sicily, Italy to perform the world premiere of a new piece written for the duo by Eddie McGuire.

Scottish Opera’s Head of Music, Derek Clark was born in Glasgow and studied at the RSAMD, Durham University and London Opera Centre.

He joined Welsh National Opera in 1977 as répétiteur and staff conductor, making his professional conducting debut in 1981 before accepting his position at Scottish Opera in 1997.

Besides his work as an accompanist,conductor, coach, arranger & composer, he has assisted Sir Roger Norrington and Richard Egarr at the Edinburgh International Festival and is Musical Director of Dundee Choral Union.
